Aaron Macauyag
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Aaron joined the OBL as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge. He is currently working in the OpenBioMAPS project where he is engineering an open source microbial strain for distributed manufacturing of enzymes and antibodies. He has previously worked as a Lead Scientist at the Integrated Protein R&D Center at the Ateneo de Manila University. Here he led a team that develops enabling technologies for the local production of enzymes. He also worked with various HEIs, the Philippine government and local industries to lobby for policies that promote local biotech research. His two master’s degrees are from the University of the Philippines Diliman (Microbiology) and from Osaka University (Biotechnology). Aaron acquired his PhD in Biotechnology from Osaka University in 2022 specialising in protein production and protein engineering in plants.
