Kassahun is the Director of the Institute of Biotechnology at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He has specialised in plant genetics. Kassahun’s research interests include genomics and genetic improvements of important food security crops in Ethiopian agriculture systems. Work with The Open Bioeconomy Lab is to examine building research and innovation capacity in Ethiopia through sustainable enzyme biomanufacturing and is supported by the Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA Research Fund.
